Asus Zenfone AR: The First Smartphone That Combines Google Tango And Daydream VR

Asus announced a new smartphone at CES 2017 which is a merger of Google’s Backed AR and VR technology.

Asus Zenfone AR is world’s first smartphone to feature both these technologies. This smartphone on the ever-popular VR trend while subsequently making use of Google’s Tango and Daydream software to accomplish its grand ambitions.

Asus Zenfone AR Specifications

One the specs front, the Zenfone AR which comes with a 5.7 with 1440 x 2560 resolution and super AMOLED display paired with a new “immersive” five-magnet speaker that supports High-Res Audio and DTS virtual surround sound.

Zenfone AR is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 CPU and 8GB of RAM and Qualcomm Adreno 530 GPU. It is equipped with 6 sensors for measuring depth, motion tracking, image recognition, and room mapping.

The software will be able to track how far the smartphone is from the wall, where it is located in the building and how far is the distance between two points.

Additionally, the ZenFone AR features Google Daydream, allowing users to quickly convert the smartphone into a VR machine.

The ZenFone AR is only the second device ever to include Google Tango, a 3D-mapping technology, to deliver seamless augmented reality that can be used for gaming, educational and domestic uses. The Zenfone AR’s powerful components allow for smoother, more accurate rendering with AR/VR apps.

Asus claims that its ZenFone AR has the highest resolution camera sensor (Sony IMX318) on the rear which is capable of creating 92MP image by combining four 23MP photos into single.

According to Asus, these types of photos have four times the clarity and less noise than a standard HD photo. It also has the capacity to record 4K videos and runs on Android Marshmallow.

Asus Zenfone AR Release Date

While the ZenFone AR is scheduled for release in Q2 2017, it doesn’t have a set price right now. Regardless, this smartphone really sounds exciting and it would definitely stimulate to see how this device fares in the already crowded smartphone market.
